Tres Leches Cake

A light and fluffy cake soaked in three kinds of milk!!
Let's start by making the 'CAKE'..Will make the 'TRES LECHES' when the cake is cooling

Here is what you need : All purpose flour,Baking powder, Sugar,Butter, Eggs and vanilla extract.
First take butter out of the  refirgerator..You need that to be at room temperature.

The cake is just a simple white cake...But it is very light.
Begin by adding 1 1/2 cups of flour in to a bowl.

To it add, 1tsp Baking powder.

Stir it together and set aside.

Next take 1 cup Sugar

and 1/2 cup salted butter in another bowl

Mix it together with your mixer.

Next take 5 eggs..

Put the egg whites in to a clean and dry bowl..

and egg yolks in to our mixing bowl...

Add 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract.

Now add the flour in to the mixture...

and gently mix it together. The batter will be slightly thick.

Whip the egg whites until soft peaks

and gently fold it in to our cake batter

Line a 9 x 13 tray with parchment paper

and pour the batter in to the baking pan.

Make the surface of the batter even using a spatula..To prevent air bubbles in the cake, gently tap the filled cake pan on the counter a few times

Bake it at 350 degree F for 30 minutes.

Once the cake is done invert it in to the same cake pan or a bigger pan.

Next the fun part.Making the 'TRES LECHES' in which you are going to let our cake swim..
For this you will need : Sweetend condensed milk,Evaporated milk,Whole milk

First open a can of sweetened condensed milk.You can lick the lid..It is completely ok.

Pour it in to a measuring cup.

Next open a can of evaporated milk and add it to the condensed milk.

To it pour 2 cups of whole milk.

And mix the three milks.

Next pierce the cake several times when it is cooled.

And pour the milk all over the cake

pour a little more on the edges of the cake

The cake will absorb all this liquid in few hours...

Cover it and refirgerate it for few hours.

It's not over....let's make the icing..This cake is not complete without this easy icing.
For this you will need : Sugar and heavy whipping cream.

Pour 1PT or 2 cups of  cold whipping cream in to a bowl

Whip until it is stiff

Add 3 Tbsp of powdered sugar and whip it again.
Be careful not to over whip though, or else you'll have butter!

Take the cake out of the refrigerator .See!! The liquid is all gone ..

Spread the cream on to the cake .

I like to have my cake with some extra sauce on it !!
And that's it. Slice it and eat it !!

Ingredients:
For the cake
  • All-purpose flour -  1 1/2 cups
  • Baking powder - 1tsp
  • Salted Butter - 1/2 cup (room temperature)
  • Sugar - 1 Cup
  • Egg - 5
  • Vanilla extract - 1/2 tsp                  
To soak
  • Whole milk - 2 cups
  • Sweetened condensed milk - 1 Can (14 oz) or 1.75 cups
  • Evaporated milk - 1 Can (12 oz) or 1.5 cups
Icing
  • Heavy whipping cream - 1PT (2 cups)
  • Powdered Sugar - 3 Tbsp                   
 Directions:
  • Combine All purpose flour and Baking powder.
  • In another bowl combine Butter and Sugar
  • Seperate the Eggs.
  • Mix the Egg yolks with the sugar mixture.
  • Add vanilla extract.
  • Add the four mixture.
  • Beat the Egg whites in to soft peaks.
  • Fold it in the Cake mixture.
  • Bake it at 350 degree F for 30 minutes.
  • Cool the cake.
  • Pierce the cake with a fork
  • Combine the three milk and pour it on the cake.
  • Refrigerate it for 3 hours or until the cake has absorbed all the milk.
  • Make icing with whipping Heavy cream and Sugar.
  • Spread it on to the cake.
  • Serve cold.
